On Tuesday, September 22, Rotary Club of Hattiesburg welcomed Mr. James Moore as our speaker and Mr. Michael Dixon of the Pinebelt Foundation as our guests. Mr. Moore shared the deeply personal story of his son Jeffrey's long battle and heartbreaking fall to opiate addiction. At the conclusion of Mr. Moore's presentation, Hattiesburg Club President, Mark Killingsworth, presented Mr. Moore with a $1,000 contribution to Jeffrey's Fund which is managed locally by the Pinebelt Foundation in Hattiesburg, MS. In addition to ensuring all first responders in Hattiesburg are equipped with the NARCAN® (a lifesaving drug which counteracts opiate overdose), he has been a tireless advocate for those struggling with addiction and their families. Mr. Moore's primary goals continue to be minimizing the stigma that shrouds drug addiction and spreading the message that "addiction is an illness, not a moral failing." |
