On Tuesday, September 22, Rotary Club of Hattiesburg welcomed Mr. James Moore as our speaker and Mr. Michael Dixon of the Pinebelt Foundation as our guests. Mr. Moore shared the deeply personal story of his son Jeffrey's long battle and heartbreaking fall to opiate addiction. At the conclusion of Mr. Moore's presentation, Hattiesburg Club President, Mark Killingsworth, presented Mr. Moore with a $1,000 contribution to Jeffrey's Fund which is managed locally by the Pinebelt Foundation in Hattiesburg, MS.

In addition to ensuring all first responders in Hattiesburg are equipped with the NARCAN® (a lifesaving drug which counteracts opiate overdose), he has been a tireless advocate for those struggling with addiction and their families. Mr. Moore's primary goals continue to be minimizing the stigma that shrouds drug addiction and spreading the message that "addiction is an illness, not a moral failing."

KEITH CLAYTON—ADG, DISTRICT 6840

I’m currently the Deputy Governor for the Mississippi Territory, District 6840, and also the Assistant Governor for the Hub Territory.

I retired from the Air Force in 1997 and joined Rotary the same year.  I joined the Rotary Club of Biloxi where I was a member for 16 years.  While with the Biloxi club I served as Treasurer for 3 years, President (04/05), Sergeant of Arms for many years, and Foundation Chair for many years.

I enjoyed my time with the Rotary Club of Biloxi, but in 2013 I had an opportunity to transfer to Edgewater Rotary Club.  Since joining the Edgewater Club, I have been President (15/16) and served on the Board for every year I’ve been in the club.

My passion is community service with a focus on education.  Our club has an active literacy project where we provide supplies and people to tutor elementary students in reading and math.

I’m a Paul Harris Society member, which means contributing $1,000/year to the Rotary Foundation.  I am a Paul Harris Fellow plus 6.

I’m married to the former Jill Medley and we’ve been married for over 40 years.
