The Bill Gwyn "Non Rotarian" Service Award Winner

This past Tuesday on behalf of the Rotary Club of Hattiesburg, Club President Wes Brooks gave the Bill Gwyn "Non-Rotarian of the Year" Service Award with these preceding remarks: "The Bill Gwyn 'Non-Rotarian of the Year' Service Award is our club’s best attempt to look beyond our membership. It is our opportunity to recognize someone from our region who exemplifies Rotary values, our commitment to service, and the empowerment of those less fortunate.
This year’s recipient hails from Starkville, Ms., but saw the light and found her way to USM where she received her degree and still resides. Our recipient has worked as community liaison at Hawkins Elementary through the "Neighbors at Hawkins" program for the
past five years. As coordinator of "Neighbors at Hawkins," her primary responsibility is to work closely with school staff and administrators to communicate opportunities for civic engagement to community volunteers.
Through her work she has been instrumental in cultivating a culture of service learning at Hawkins Elementary. This, along with her work with Ekklesia Hattiesburg, makes this year’s recipient quite a remarkable person.
Whether you know her as an actress, singer, musician, counselor, advocate, coordinator, or community liaison, after today you will know Sharon Miles as the 2014 Bill Gwyn 'Non-Rotarian of the Year.'"
