Latoya Norman is the Director of Museums for the Hattiesburg Convention Commission.  Her work with the Commission began in 2008 when she was hired as their Education Coordinator.  This position gave her the opportunity to educate children of all ages about the selfless service and sacrifice of African Americans in the military and the meaningful role community members have played during times of war.  Today, she oversees developments in the Sixth Street Museum District which include: the African American Military History Museum, Oseola McCarty House, Historic Eureka School, and the Smith Drug Co.

Her favorite aspect of her work is getting to know local veterans and being able to share their stories with visitors. Her work, alongside dedicated staff, has led the museum to national exposure. Latoya received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a member of the American Alliance of Museums Association, the Association of African American Museums, the Association of State and Local History, and the Mississippi Museums Association. Latoya is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Sigma Omega Chapter. She resides in Hattiesburg and enjoys spending time with her husband, Alphonzo, and their two children, Alisa and Jimir.
