Mallory Donald presided over the meeting. Lucy Sanguinetti provided the opening prayer.  Lee Kemp then led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Stew then let the club in the Four Way Test. The meeting was held at the Mugshots Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg.

Mallory reminded members of the District’s Leadership Training seminar set for June 10th.  It will be held at Coast Electric. A registration link is available on our website. More wine tasting sponsors are needed. She asked every member to acquire at least one sponsorship. Thus far there are 31 items in the silent auction. More are needed. Take a picture of any item you get and send it and an item description along with an estimated value to Matt.

Stew then conducted the weekly 50/50 raffle. Bill MacLauchlan was today’s winner. He donated his winnings back to the pot.

Mark Killingsworth introduced today’s guest speaker, Dwight Owens. Dwight is a motivational speaker representing the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS).

Dwight’s father was shot and killed when he was just six years old. Dwight was hit by a drunk driver. He suffered numerous life-threatening injuries, including having his heart stop and having to be resuscitated. The accident also severed his spinal cord, which left him paraplegic.

He says MDRS has several resources to help people with disabilities. They offer education, housing, transportation and will modify the home. They will also pay the salary of a person with a disability hired by someone. They also offer financial resources, surgery or medical expense payments, equipment, and a personal care assistant. However, he says the biggest problem suffered by people with disabilities is lonesomeness.

Dwight says the world shouldn’t be able to take away your purpose in life. He reminded members that every person has a value, no matter what happens to them.

There being no further business to come before the club, Mallory thanked Dwight for his remarks and then adjourned the meeting with our motto: “Service Above Self.”
