Mallory Donald presided over the meeting today since Lynn Walton was out. Allen Anderson provided the opening prayer and Bill McLaughlin led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mallory led the club in the Four Way Test. The meeting was held at the Holiday Inn in Hattiesburg and via Zoom.
Mallory reminded members of the February 3, 2022, wine tasting. It is scheduled for the Canebrake Clubhouse. She also reminded members of the need to secure silent auction items. The money raised from the auction will be donated to our fourth-quarter charity.
Lucy Sanguinetti then introduced today’s guest speaker, Wade Wicht. His wife Ramona was out sick today.
Wade is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, children, and families to overcome personal and relational challenges. He is an expert in inspiring others to create positive change in their personal and professional lives.
Wade specializes in couples who are suffering from infidelity, sexual concerns, communication problems, financial fights, and healing after trauma (grief and/or loss) as well as those who are dating, engaged, considering divorce, separated, not able to get along, or having difficulties parenting. As an EMDR trained therapist, Wade has helped numerous clients overcome anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, complex trauma, neglect, and abuse, and addictions.
Wade and his wife Ramona decided to open Alley Cats when her brother sent them a picture of him holding a beer in one hand and an axe in the other. They thought it was crazy at first, but soon realized the potential and fun it could bring to downtown.
They scheduled a meeting with Mayor Toby Barker and within 10 minutes of him watching the video, he was sold. He scheduled a meeting with attorneys and the planning and zoning department. They opened in February 2020. The business was great until Covid hit.
So, then they started, the STRAY CAT. This is a portable trailer that has two targets and is available for parties, weddings, team building & corporate events.
Axe throwing has been around for over a decade in Canada but has only recently entered the United States—and now downtown. They re-opened in June of this year and have been going strong ever since.
Ramona’s brother then called them again about the “smash room” idea. It didn’t take them long to get that idea off the ground. You can choose your weapon like a baseball bat, golf club, hammer etc., and your music. They will suit you up in protective gear and off you go. You can smash dishes, electronic devices, windshields or BYOB (bring your own breakables). Shall we say, “the smashing is endless?”
If you are interested in throwing axes or just some mad smashing, call or stop by. Cat 5 is located at 214 West Pine St. in the heart of Historic Downtown Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Phone (601) 329-2305. Alley Cats is located at 220 W Pine St, Hattiesburg, MS 39401. Phone (601) 329-2340.
Mallory thanked Wade for his presentation. There being no further business to come before the club, she adjourned the meeting with our motto: “Service Above Self.”
