Mallory Donald presided over the meeting. A.D. Hunt provided the opening prayer. Bill MacLauchlan led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mallory led the club in the Four Way Test. The meeting was held at the Mugshots Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg.

Mallory reminded members that the wine tasting committee will meet on Wednesday, January 4, to plan the 2023 event. Stew conducted the 50/50 raffle. A.D. Hunt was today’s winner.

Latrina Rankin was installed as the club’s newest member. She was recruited by Coty Primeaux. Her husband is a police officer. They have two children. She works for Regions.

Ryan Kelly then introduced today’s guest speaker, Laura Achter. She has been a field instructor with the University of Southern Mississippi’s Child Welfare Training Academy for more than 20 years. She served in the Mississippi Air National Guard.

Laura spoke about the very important task of self-care. She says it is one, if not, the most important things we can do to stay healthy and happy. Self-care is the way you recharge yourself. She says the pandemic changed our behaviors, changing the ways we self-help. Due to the pandemic, we are all having to re-learn how we socialize. She asked members if they have been to the dentist, the doctor, or the eye doctor in the past year. These are some of the things we need to do to stay healthy. Another important element of self-help is eating healthy.

She challenged our members to do a self-assessment and to be accountable for our health. She suggested that we find things to do that will help us re-charge ourselves daily.

There being no further business to come before the club, Mallory thanked Laura for her thoughts and suggestions. She then adjourned the meeting with our motto: “Service Above Self.”
