REMINDER!

We WILL be meeting today! We will be covering event details, so please make every effort to attend.

This is the last meeting before the event this Thursday and will be your last chance to turn in auction items!

Mallory Donald presided over the meeting. Lucy Sanguinetti provided the opening prayer.  Lee Kemp then led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Stew then let the club in the Four Way Test. The meeting was held at the Mugshots Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg.

Mallory reminded members of the District’s Leadership Training seminar set for June 10th.  It will be held at Coast Electric. A registration link is available on our website. More wine tasting sponsors are needed. She asked every member to acquire at least one sponsorship. Thus far there are 31 items in the silent auction. More are needed. Take a picture of any item you get and send it and an item description along with an estimated value to Matt.

Stew then conducted the weekly 50/50 raffle. Bill MacLauchlan was today’s winner. He donated his winnings back to the pot.

Mark Killingsworth introduced today’s guest speaker, Dwight Owens. Dwight is a motivational speaker representing the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS).

Dwight’s father was shot and killed when he was just six years old. Dwight was hit by a drunk driver. He suffered numerous life-threatening injuries, including having his heart stop and having to be resuscitated. The accident also severed his spinal cord, which left him paraplegic.

He says MDRS has several resources to help people with disabilities. They offer education, housing, transportation and will modify the home. They will also pay the salary of a person with a disability hired by someone. They also offer financial resources, surgery or medical expense payments, equipment, and a personal care assistant. However, he says the biggest problem suffered by people with disabilities is lonesomeness.

Dwight says the world shouldn’t be able to take away your purpose in life. He reminded members that every person has a value, no matter what happens to them.

Form more information about MDRS, call 800-443-1000 or visit them a mdrs.ms.gov.

There being no further business to come before the club, Mallory thanked Dwight for his remarks and then adjourned the meeting with our motto: “Service Above Self.”
Stew Deen presided over the meeting. Bryan Shaver provided the opening prayer.  Coty Primeaux then led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Stew then let the club in the Four Way Test. The meeting was held at the Mugshots Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg.

Bryan reported tat a District Club Assembly will be held at Coast Electric in Kiln on June 10th. The meeting will begin at 7:30 and end at 1:30. If you are interested in attending, contact Bryan. Sponsorship sign-ups for the June 1 wine tasting event are now underway. Each club member is required to sign up for at least one sponsorship. Angela Herzog asked club members for RYLA nominations. Nominees must be a rising senior. If you know anyone interested, contact Angela.

Stew then conducted the weekly 50/50 raffle. Lucy Sanguinetti’s ticket was drawn but she did not pick the correct card, so the pot will increase for next week.

Bill MacLauchlan then introduced today’s guest speaker, Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, Andy Gipson. Mr. Gibson is the eighth commissioner for our state. He is a cattleman, a tree farmer, an attorney, and an evangelist. He served in the Legislature as Mississippi State Representative from 2008 until 2018. Commissioner Gibson received his college education at Mississippi College and the Mississippi College School of Law. He oversees 210 employees at the Commission.

Commissioner Gibson reports that agriculture is the state’s largest industry. Twenty-five percent of the state’s workforce is employed by the industry. Our farmers have had record production every year since 2020, producing $9.7 billion dollars in farm products. Our state is number one in the southeast for poultry production and produces more timber inventory than any other state in the Southeast.

Although many industries were shuttered during the Covid crisis, the agriculture industry continued to operate. The greatest challenge faced by farmers today is the lack of workforce.

Farmers in Europe are fighting environmental concerns and many of them have had to cease production.

There are nine USDA meat producers in Mississippi, which is up from just three just a few short years ago.

There being no further business to come before the club, Stew thanked Mr. Gibson for his remarks and then adjourned the meeting with our motto: “Service Above Self.”
Mallory Donald presided over the meeting. A.D. Hunt provided the opening prayer.  Mackenzie Parker then led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mallory then led the club in the Four Way Test. The meeting was held at the Mugshots Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg.

Mallory reported that a Rotary District Leadership Training seminar is scheduled for June 10th. You can register for the seminar on the district’s website.

Mallory reminded members of the upcoming wine tasting and silent auction. The event is scheduled for the Canebrake clubhouse on June 1st. All members are expected to purchase or sell four $25 tickets for the event and to provide at least one item for the silent auction. A sponsorship package was distributed, and members were encouraged to sign up for one of the sponsorship packages. All members will be invoiced for four $25 tickets which they can use or give away.

Stew then conducted the weekly 50/50 raffle. Mike Ratliff’s ticket was drawn but he did not pick the correct card, so the pot will increase for next week.

Vicki Gutierrez, District 6840’s president-elect, thanked club members for their hard work putting the District Conference together. She says the event was great. As the incoming president, she promised members that we will have a fun year under her leadership.

Annie Jackson then introduced today’s guest speaker, Patricia Thompson. She has lived in Hattiesburg since 1989. She was an LPN and later became an ADN and went back and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has 30 years of experience in the medical field and 14 years at Lumberton Family Health Center in Lumberton. She is married to John Thompson. She has two children, John Jr. and Savanah, and she loves the Lord. Educating the masses is her passion, and training the next generation is her goal.

Ms. Thompson discussed several medical issues that most Americans experience over their lifetime and treatments for those conditions. The first condition was sinus congestion, which can cause head and neck pain and can even cause migraines. Her advice is to see a physician, get medication and take it daily. Many of us suffer from high blood pressure. Again, take your medicine and walk for at least 30 minutes each day. Many of us suffer from weight gain. Ms. Thompson says watch your diet and eat healthy food. She suggested organic food because it has no chemicals found in processed food. Some of us suffer from depression. Men are the most likely to not discuss their depression. She says you must find somebody to talk to about your depression. If nothing else, turn to friends or your children and let them help you.

There being no further business to come before the club, Mallory thanked Patricia and then adjourned the meeting with our motto: “Service Above Self.”
