Mallory Donald presided over the meeting. Lucy Sanguinetti provided the opening prayer.  Shirley Moore then led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mallory then led the club in the Four Way Test. The meeting was held at the Mugshots Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg.

Mallory reported that the wine tasting event has cleared approximately $12,000. She also reminded members to make every effort to attend the meeting next week. Awards will be presented, and the new officers will be installed.

Richard Topp’s number was called in the 50/50 raffle, however he did not pull the correct card. Today’s collections will be added to the pot for next week’s raffle.

Bryan Shaver then introduced today’s speaker, our own Mark Killingsworth. Mark is from Mendenhall but now resides in Hattiesburg. He graduated with a degree in Marketing from USM in 1974. He joined Dillards in 1976 where he spent the next 42 years. As a Buyer, a Store Manager, and a Divisional Merchandise Manager and the last 30 years as Vice-President of Ladies & Children’s Apparel.

Mark reported that Dillards opened its first store in Arkansas. In 1969 the company went public however it is still controlled by the founding family. The company owns its own trucking and construction enterprises. The company has four regional buying markets and has 289 stores in 29 states. It has no HR department therefore managers are in charge of recruiting and hiring his or her own employees.

Dillards was the first store of its kind to automate their inventory. The company tracks sales daily, so managers know what products were sold the previous day and what products need to be reordered.

Mark concluded his presentation by noting that in 1980 there were 1,800 malls in America. Today there are only 750.

There being no further business to come before the club, Mallory thanked Mark for his remarks and then adjourned the meeting with our motto: “Service Above Self.”
