FEBRUARY 7, 2017

President Jaclyn Adams was not in attendance today.  James Mitchell presided over the meeting in her absence.

Thanks to Rusty Edwards who gave the invocation and to Johnathan Shemper who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thanks also to James Mitchell and Alan Anderson who served as our greeters today.

Due to the severe weather today, tornado warnings and watches that were issued, our guest speaker had to cancel.

James announced...

that Mary Cromartie brought Dr. Mary Ariail as her guest today. Mary is applying for membership.   James also announced there will be a board meeting held immediately after the membership meeting next week. He asked that board members plan to remain about 30 minutes after that membership meeting.

Samantha McCain reminded everyone about us hosting this year’s pre-race pick-up and dinner event with "Burgers & Bibs." Held on Friday, February 24, this addition to race festivities will allow runners to pick up his or her shirt/bib combo and be able to pick up dinner! The burgers will be from Topher's Rock-n-Roll Grill on Hardy Street!

The Children’s Center Classic 10K, 5K, and 1-Mile Fun Run will take place on Saturday, February 25 at Pride Field, located on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi.  Race-day registration and bag pick-up will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. and the race will kick-off at 9 a.m. beginning with the 1-Mile Fun Run.

All funds raised from this event will go toward the life-changing work of The Children's Center, a place that has helped children discover their inner superpowers since 1974. - See more at: http://www.thechildrenscenterclassic.com

James announced that Jaclyn wanted to make sure he thanked the following volunteers for the relief cleanup last Saturday. A huge thank you to Freddie Walter, Sam Davis, Bill McLeod, Tracie Fowler, Dean and Mary Cromartie, Jonathan Shemper, Paula Brahan and Mary Arierl.  He also thanked Eric Graham and Lamar Evans for their chainsaw work, and last but not least Ben Donald for bringing 16 work members.  We had members from the Sunrise Club, Long Beach Club and Gulfport Clu helping in the relief cleanup as well.

James also announced that we received a $500 check for the disaster relief from the Quad Cities Rotary Club in Sharp County, Arkansas.

Jaclyn asked James to let us know that we are partnering up with Adcock Properties and Walmart to donate $4,500 toward uniforms and school supplies for Hattiesburg school district children.

Wes read a letter from Bill Hughes thanking us for the beautiful flowers that were sent to his wife while she was in the hospital.

Another announcement made was, on March 3rd Friday at noon, there are four golf clubs that are sponsoring a tournament at the same time for a William Carey fundraiser for the students.  Those courses are Cranebrake, Timberton, ShadowRidge and the Hattiesburg Country Club.

With no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned by James Mitchell with our motto, “Service Above Self”.
